Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

Ava DuVernay was born on the 24th of August 1972 within Long Beach California. DuVernay was inspired to follow her passion of art through her aunt Denise when she was a child. She was a night nurse, allowing her aunt the time she needed during the days to be able to enjoy writing, theatre and literature. She introduced DuVernay the 1961 movie West Side Story and DuVernay fell in love with it. DuVernay discovered through her example that art could be an effective tool for social change. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a graduate from Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in the year 1990. DuVernay was a student at University of California Los Angeles upon graduation. There she obtained certificates in English and African American Studies. DuVernay began producing content for the broadcast industry while she was in her school. DuVernay began her career as an intern for CBS News during the O.J. Simpson's trial. DuVernay was assigned to watch the home of one member of the jury as well as take a look at their trash. When she was dissatisfied with journalism and the jobs she was given, DuVernay decided to pursue a career in public relations. DuVernay got a job right out of college as a junior publicist at one of the smaller studios. From this position she started her own company for public relations known as The DuVernay Agency in 1999.
