Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American anchor for a television newscast and a commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. Following a childhood living in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from The University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in 1967. She was a reporter for the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Two years later she became a general correspondent at NBC News in Washington. The year 1980 marked the beginning of her coverage of the White House. 1988 became the principal journalist for Congress. Then, in 1992 she was appointed chief White House Correspondent and in 1994 chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News. Mitchell hosted and was a panelist at the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell joined the panel during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for The John F. Kennedy School of Government. And in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her work in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first journalist to report on White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. She has covered several notable reports over time, including fiscal reform, the budget and The Iran Contra scandal. She traveled extensively together with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
